Round Robins

Just got finished writing my letter for the round robin.  My extended family has been participating in a round robin for as long as I can remember.  I have vivid memories of my mom snatching up that packet of letters like a cherished Christmas gift and immediately sitting down to savor each letter with her cup of tea and probably a cookie too.  As I think back on it I realize what a lifeline that must have been for her.  We didn’t get a telephone until 1976, (and even after we did, long distance phone calls were for emergencies only!) there was no internet, and she rarely travelled in those days so hearing from her family by mail was her only connection to the ones she loved.  It’s kind of an outdated practice now and all of the original letter writers are gone but we still send one around.  More than once the packet of letters and pictures has gotten lost and someone revived it again.  I try to get my letter written it sent on within a few days or people start getting worried.  It really is a symbol of a time gone  by and I think it is done out of respect for people that started it, but as long as I get it, I will continue to write my note and send it on.

  2. They would be DELIGHTED for your participation! A few years ago we tried to get you AND Barb (right Mrs. Cave?) but you declined so Tom joined. Mom recruited me years ago. David Pugh, Martha King, Alan & Joanne King, Marilyn Pugh and an occasional Ratzloff son are the participants. I can send it to you (I've not sent it off yet) and you can send it on to Indiana, want to?

  3. Call me blonde, but exactly how does this work? How does the first letter writer get to see all of the following letters? Sounds like a great thing to me!!! You know how I love writing letters!!!!

  4. hahah well I would write a letter and send it to you and you would include your letter (with mine) and send it to Caroline and Caroline would write her letter and include it with mine and yours and she would sent it to Ted and Ted would write his letter and send the whole batch to back to me and I'd take my letter out and write a new one and send it to you.....etc, etc., etc.
